Through my fostering with Orange County Animal Shelter (OCAS), I bring home many kittens at different stages of care. Some are almost ready to be spayed/neutered and adopted, some need extra socialization, some are still nursing with their mom, and others require bottle feeding.
Whatever the reason, if you’re looking for a kitten, or even a specific type of kitten—there’s a good chance I’ll either have one available or know a foster who does.

All adoptions go through OCAS. Every kitten will have age-appropriate vaccines and will be spayed/neutered before joining your family.
Although Orange County Animal Shelter often has kittens available, adopting a fostered kitten usually means bringing home a more confident, friendly, and adaptable pet. Foster families provide daily, hands-on care in a home environment. Regular handling, playtime, and exposure to everyday household sights and sounds help kittens adjust more easily to new homes.
Shelter kittens can certainly be wonderful too, but foster care often gives them an extra edge in socialization, especially during those critical early weeks of development.
Kindness for Cats and Candy’s Cats hold regular adoption events! Click to see their current adoptable cats and kittens.
Wait Till 8 through OCAS. This is a great program for Orange County residents who want to help foster kittens until they are ready for adoption. Kittens for adoption through this program are often listed on the Kindness for Cats website.
If you find a litter of kittens, the first instinct is to take them inside. STOP PLEASE! Mom may have just gone to look for food and will be back. If the situation is dangerous, mom has not been back in twenty-four hours, or kittens look unwell - you can surrender them to Orange County Animal Shelter (if you live in Orange County). OCAS will reach out to find fosters if the kittens are under two pounds which is about eight weeks old. The sad part about this open admission shelter is, kittens without fosters under 2 pounds/8 weeks old if not picked up by a foster, may be euthanized at the end of the day. Thankfully this is rare as Kindness For Cats has been amazing at helping Orange County Residents become fosters. The way you can prevent a wasted life is to bring the kittens and even mom if you can safely catch her, to OCAS and register them through the Wait till 8 program.
You would take care of the cats until they are old enough to be spayed/neutered and then put up the kittens for adoption.
Pet Alliance often makes people wait weeks to get an appointment and will only accept friendly animals. Although I understand peoples concerns about OCAS, at least they try to help everyone, by turning away no-one.
